Tanya Maryniak...Director / Editor
Tanya is a director and editor. She is intrigued by projects that show the power of the human spirit, and creates films that either make you think, fill you with emotion or enlighten you on a topic.
Her films have helped raise over $2 million for development work. She recently worked with Academy award winner John Zaritsky on the documentary feature The Wild Horse Redemption, screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, and resulting in a Leo nomination for Best Editing in a Documentary Program. Her work has aired on CBC, Bravo! Television, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Muchmusic, Outdoor Life Network and Global Television.
Tanya was born in England, and later moved to Newfoundland, Ontario, BC and Mexico. Her films have taken her to The Democratic Republic of Congo, Guatemala, Mexico, Cambodia and France. She credits her travels for creating a diverse perspective which enables her to deliver honest, compelling stories (and a range of bad fake accents).
After graduating from Ryerson with a degree in new media Tanya continued on to produce, direct and edit music videos, corporate videos and dance films. She then migrated to the documentary world seeking stories that needed telling. Standing in a mud hut in the Guatemalan highlands she realized that there are many stories that still need a voice, and you should never be without a good pair of mud boots.
"Tanya is a brilliant film editor who is able to quickly understand what a director wants and implement their ideas. If required, she will contribute her own original ideas and works without having to be closely supervised. Tanya is very easy to get along with and works extremely well under pressure. She's one of the best in the business and I can not recommend her highly enough.”
